Overview

This intensive vocational course will introduce you to a range of practical skills, knowledge and ethical considerations necessary to undertake restoration and conservation work. You will develop an understanding of good craftsmanship, scientific argument and the cultural value of the job in hand. The importance of life-long learning and professional development is emphasised and you will be encouraged to join professional and trade associations. You will also have the opportunity to be considered for annual prizes and awards. Several tutors are practicing furniture restorers, bringing unique insight into the practice of furniture restoration.

Careers

Graduates gain employment in museum or commercial restoration practices, set up their own furniture restoration workshop, or progress to Honours-level degrees in Furniture Restoration or Conservation.

Entry requirements

In addition to the University's standard entry requirements , you should have at least 80 points from one or more A levels in a relevant subject, with three other subjects at GCSE, including English; or a BTEC National Diploma or Certificate in a relevant subject. Those with none of the above qualifications may be considered after interview where they have demonstrated their ability to be successful in the course.
