Overview

This course provides you with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of economic analysis and its application to business. You will develop a thorough understanding of the economic factors affecting the structure, strategic decisions and social and ethical dimensions of modern businesses. You will be encouraged to develop economic reasoning in a variety of contexts and to apply economic analysis to business problems.

The course will consider major current global debates such as growth, financial stability, lending to business, world trade flows, pay differentials and anti-competitive business practices, as well as the everyday things of business life including profit determination, investment analysis, and pricing strategies. In a world where there is increasing debate about the relationship between business and society, including the scarcity of resources such as energy and raw materials and the environment, business economics plays a key role in understanding these issues.

Our students come from all parts of the UK and from over 70 countries worldwide. They exchange ideas, build lasting friendships and develop global networks.

Our teaching is rated as 'Excellent' by the QAA, which is the highest possible rating available for a UK University department.

Student profiles

What our students say

'I decided to study Business Economics at college and then at London Met, because I wanted to know more about how the world works. I’ve really enjoyed my course, especially microeconomics, industrial organisation and the whole idea of game theory. I have gained skills and knowledge that I can also apply to my personal and professional life and I’ve acquired a great deal of statistical expertise, which has already helped me a good deal. There are many terrific job opportunities for economics graduates. With an economics degree, you can work in a variety of sectors like finance and banking, insurance, civil service, sales and marketing, actuarial work and even public policy.' - Sharon Sitima, BA Business Economics, (2008-11)
