Overview

The transition into adulthood is often viewed as challenging and complex .It is also a time of fresh opportunities and new discoveries. Young people are represented in contemporary social concerns ranging from unemployment, social relationships to youth protests-at the same time they have become a pulsating presence in the media and in the creative arts. The Youth Studies programme is an interdisciplinary course that provides an understanding of youth in its social, cultural and political context. With both theoretical and practice-based elements, it combines the insights and methodologies of cultural studies, criminology, media studies, sociology and psychology to provide insights into everything from youth and community work to urban gang life; and from young people's social welfare to the history of hip-hop.
