Overview

Our sociology course has two main aims: to provide you with an in-depth knowledge of sociology as a discipline and to enable you to apply this knowledge to the ‘real’ world. The emphasis of the course is very much on the applied and practical nature of sociology and sociological research. We will also introduce you to a range of social research methodologies and specialist areas of sociological inquiry such as the sociology of cities, globalisation, social inequality, identity, ethnicity and race. A variety of teaching and learning methods are used to deliver a course that is both stimulating and relevant. Overall, the course is designed to enable you to apply sociological perspectives, concepts and research methods to the most challenging social issues facing us today.

Student profiles

I was well supported from the beginning of my course. The tutors have provided support, guidance and advice throughout my studies. I firmly believe the reason I have achieved good grades is because the staff have challenged ...not spoon-fed... me. The student body is a diverse mix of ethnicities, ages, and backgrounds and because of this the university truly represents the community. For me this is one of the central reasons that London Met is so special, studying for a degree here provides you with not only excellent academic teaching but also allows you to study in an environment that is inclusive.
