Overview

The course is closely liked with the Cisco networking modules (specifically CCNA, IT Essentials, Wireless and Security Modules) with optional Industrial placement. The MEng Network Management and Security provides opportunities to study the advanced topics related to Network management and Network security through hands-on group and individual case-studies and projects throughout the course. The MEng program provides a fast-track way to achieve the academic requirements for registration as a Chartered Engineer.

Careers

Career opportunities

With the rapid growth in communications and networking technologies, the demand for skilled Computer Networking professionals is growing rapidly.  As a direct result of this growth, new careers and opportunities have been created and claims in the specialist press suggest that demand will, for the foreseeable future, exceed supply considerably.  The highest level of demand is seen in the fields of Network Management and Security:
Network Management is the set of procedures and processes used to plan, configure, monitor, maintain and coordinate computer and communication networks
Network Security is the protection of networking components, connections and contents from unauthorised access.
The Faculty of Computing's World of Work (WoW) Agency offers opportunities to enhance employability skills, gain real experience and 'earn while you learn' through placements into real client-driven projects - working with business and industry.

What our students say

Students who have studied in Engineering courses:
“... the engineering content and hands on laboratory involvement, along with the clear delivery and supervision, with open door policy exercised by the academic staff, have really reassured me that coming to LondonMet was the right thing to do! ...”

Professional accreditation/exemption

The Cisco academy in the Faculty is one of the first academy in UK established in 1999. Students study the Cisco’s CCNA and CCNP modules and will be able to become a CCNA qualified engineer plus able to take the CCNP examinations.

Students with Cisco CCNA certification from an approved Cisco academy may be exempt from the relevant CCNA modules in the course.
