Careers

Professional accreditation/exemption

We encourage mature students to claim credit (exemption) for previous education or relevant experience, which may include academic courses, in-company training, paid or unpaid work and leisure activities. To do this you need to present evidence of past achievement or undertake a formal Assessment of Prior Learning – APL.

Collaborative and international links

We have contacts with the industry and several other institutions. Full-time students are encouraged to undertake a placement year. This provides a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience of the industry, spending a year with an employer, during which you will be paid. Tutors can help you to find a suitable placement. Placements are considered useful experience by potential employers, when you graduate.

Career opportunities

Successful completion of this course offers career opportunities to enter the media industries in creative and technical roles, such as: sound recording, sound dubbing and sound broadcast (such as at the BBC). The programme is also excellent preparation for further research or study at Masters and PhD level.

Student profiles

In 2010, Priscilla Angelique commented that her BA (Hons) in Music Technology (Sound for Media) at London Met has allowed her to make possible her long-standing goal of self-producing a studio album. Priscilla says: ‘I visited a lot of other universities before making the decision to come to London Met. Several things stood out. Firstly, the facilities: I was very impressed by the music studios and video editing suites. Secondly, the teaching team. I met two of the key lecturers, before I joined. Both lecturers have an extraordinary amount of experience in the field and yet know how to present this well to the undergraduate.'
