Overview

BA Fine Art with Honours in Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture & Installation, Mixed Media (which includes digital imaging, film & video performance.
Fine Art features depth and diversity of learning and creativity, leading to a dedicated focus of study within specialist areas of contemporary art making. Cross-disciplinary working is encouraged to aid flexibility and scope in future careers. Investigate the conceptual and technical properties of fine art practice. Extend your skills and knowledge through experimentation and variety of assessment methods, including practical projects, research papers, presentations, and culminating in a summative exhibition of degree-show work.
The course has large open plan studios with excellent workshops and technical facilities. The teaching team is comprised of practicing artists and theoreticians.

Assessment

You are assessed via project work, essays, individual and group projects and a final major project and dissertation.

Collaborative and international links

The School of Fine Art has strong outreach and external links, including leading galleries such as the Whitechapel Gallery and academic and community oriented projects, such as http://satellite-projects.blogspot.com or the research based East Ender Project and The Animal Gaze.

Careers

Students typically take up careers in visual arts, arts administration, community arts, media communications, museum curating and environmental design. Graduates have found work for companies such as the Tate Gallery, Ocean Media and On Demand Productions as Gallery Assistants, Museum Attendants and Junior Producers. The programme is also excellent preparation for further research or study.

Entry requirements

In addition to the University's standard entry requirements, you should also have 280 UCAS points including at least 2 A Levels (or equivalent) in art and design or related subjects. Applicants will attend an interview with a portfolio of creative work. This course is also available as a four-year extended degrees, the first of which is the Foundation Year Art, Media, Design.
