Members of the department are actively involved in research and consultancy, enabling them to keep in touch with industry requirements.
We have undertaken leading-edge research and development in networking, databases and multimedia systems, working with industry. We have close links with the City of London and industry. Placement is an option on many courses. Many staff are active in appropriate professional bodies and we encourage you to join as student members.
In the most recent QAA subject reviews for Computing, the quality of teaching and learning was ranked as the top grade, "commendable", including "the increasing and effective use of electronic learning materials".
We have both specialist and general-purpose computer laboratories, with workstations that run Unix, Windows,networking software from CISCO,
database software from Oracle and multimedia software. We are a Cisco
Systems Regional Academy.
Our student body is very cosmopolitan. Links with educational establishments in the Far East are being extended into Africa, Bangladesh, China, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka through collaboration with overseas partners. Moststudents can participate in study abroad programmes, where you spend part of your course at another European institution.

The Department houses GameLab London, an experimental and exciting facility offering student internships working on real multimedia and gaming development contracts. Recent projects include interactive on-line stories for use in schools and interactive DVD-Video for a theatre company. GameLab is also a lead partner of a consortium which is a direct supplier to the BBC digital curriculum. |
