Primary Schools Loan Box
The Women's Library has devised a box containing a variety of activities and resources to help teachers run a school council and to support the citizenship curriculum at primary level. The 'Have Your Vote' box includes activities for introducing the school council to the Suffrage Movement, training new council members and preparing for an election.

In the box we have duplicate examples of items from The Women's Library Suffrage collections to support ideas of democracy. Objects include a badge, flag, sash and banner, as well as posters, pictures and a duplicate pamphlet. Many of the items are strongly visual as this will have the most impact on the 5-11 age group. Tips are given on designing their own posters and banners to get the message across about the importance of voting. This helps the children in the two main curriculum areas of Citizenship and Literacy, but it also touches on the History curriculum

The Loan Box is available to all London primary schools, but highest priority will be given to local schools (from Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Newham and Islington).

To borrow the box call 020 7320 3505 or email c.norman@londonmet.ac.uk
