T-shirts became a must in every teenager’s wardrobe from the 1950s through punk to the environmentally conscious 90s. Taking inspiration from the exhibition Grow Up! Advice and the Teenage Girl and The Women’s Library’s magazine collections, teenagers designed, made and customised their own T-shirt in a day for the Wear it with pride! project.
From the beehive to bleached blonde, black eye liner to lip gloss, experimenting with make up, hair and lots of products has always played a part in growing up. For A bit of lippy, Teenagers learned about the styles of the past and the trends of today from beauty artists and had their faces made up in yesterday's way.
The project was funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation
