Joining the Library is easy. Simply complete the registration form and bring proof of your identity bearing your signature or photograph (for example, a passport, student pass or debit card). Staff will issue you with a day pass in exchange for the ID, which is kept at Reception whilst you visit the Reading Room. You can complete the registration on arrivial or print and complete it at home and bring it when you visit.

Access facilities
To access the collections the reading room has the following facilities:
- Sockets for laptops
- 3 micro-fiche/film readers which readers can access on a first come basis
- Hand held magnifying glasses, kept at the Enquiry Desk
- Carrels are available for hire for private study
- A computer terminal with a 19 inch monitor, large print keyboard with yellow lettering on a black background and trackerball so you can access the catalogue, archives guide and web resources
- A hand-held trackerball attached to one of the computers
- Supernova software that will magnify and read text, again for access to the catalogue, archives guide and web resources
- **temporarily unavailable**A flatbed scanner and Kurzweil software to enable pages from books and periodicals to be scanned and read aloud.
The Women's Library would like to thank the London Museums Archives and Libraries Disability Access Grant Programme for the purchase of equipment and software.
Maximise your time by identifing materials prior to your visit. The Reading room holds the majority of our books published after 1920 and our more current periodicals. You can take these materials off the shelf yourself. All other materials are held in our on-site vaults, however they are easily accessible through our retrieval system. Preservation and security - please read
To preserve the collections for the enjoyment of future generations we ask readers to use pencil when taking notes and respect staff guidance concerning the handling and copying of the materials. For photocopying and photographic copying services click here
For the security of materials and personal belongings we ask visitors to deposit all bags, coats, drinks and food in the cloakroom located in the basement. The Lockers require a £1 coin (refunded after use). Our rules and regulations are detailed in full in the PDF document above.
