Introducing the Badges

In 1881 Central Council had rejected the idea of a GFS badge, but in 1917 this decision was reversed and the Society embraced these tiny emblems of unity with the same enthusiasm it had shown for certificates.

The 'great cost of producing a permanent Badge being prohibitive during War time', the first badge, issued in 1918, was of woven cloth and 'was acclaimed with joy' by many Branches. The 'long-looked-for Permanent Badge of the Society' was finally issued in 1920 and thereafter the GFS produced badges for every conceivable office and occasion.
