Welcome to The Women's Library
The Women's Library is a cultural centre housing the most extensive collection of women's history in the UK. Access is free and open to everyone.
The Reading Room will be closed from Monday 6th September to Friday 10th September . The exhibition will be open as normal
From workshops to walks, study days to special events and lots more in between, there's something for everyone at The Women's Library this season.
Study day: Out of the Archives
Saturday 11 September, 12 – 3.30pm This seminar brings together the artists commissioned for the Out of the Archives project alongside with guest speakers to present and discuss visual responses to the gendered archive. £6 / £4 concessions
Performance: The Brilliant & The Dark
Thursday 23 September, 7pm (90 mins) The Brilliant & The Dark is an opera for women’s voices that looks at history through the eyes of the crusaders’ wives, plague stricken women, witch hunters and war workers. It was first performed by 1,000 women volunteers in 1969. Join this special live event with artists Eileen Simpson & Ben White (Open Music Archive) as they present their re-interpretation of this musical adventure in collaboration with their all-women choir Gaggle. £6 / £4 concessions
Fawcett Lecture 2010: Sandi Toksvig on Post-Feminism: thank goodness the need for feminism is over!
Thursday 25 November, 7pm Sandi Toksvig, a woman of many talents, best known for being a comedian, broadcaster and author, will present The Women’s Library’s 2010 Fawcett Lecture. Her many achievements include writing and performing the first all-woman show at the Cambridge Footlights, while studying Law and Anthropology at Girton College. She is presenter of Radio 4's Excess Baggage and the chair of The News Quiz. She has also written fiction and non-fiction books for children and adults, and is often vocal about her personal enthusiasm for crafts like weaving, embroidery and carpentry.£10 / £8
Opening Times
The Reading Room is open Tuesday to Friday from 9.30am to 5.00pm with a late evening opening on Thursday until 8pm.
Exhibitions are open Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 5.30pm, with a late evening opening on Thursday until 8.00pm. Saturday hours are 10.00am to 4.00pm.
