Fabrizio Manco
« back
Fabrizio Manco is an artist working across disciplines including
video, drawing, physical theatre, improvisation, movement,
site-specific performance and installation, sound/acoustic ecology and
sci-art. This is reflected and integrated in his performance and live
art practice, which has always been the main focus of his work. He has
explored the concept and questioning of framing and boundaries, as well
as that of site and 'place', their phenomenology and ecology, the
experience of 'theatricality', ritual and liminality and investigated
the relation to physical ailment/vulnerability and becoming. He trained
in Fine Art at the Slade (BA and MA) and studied in Arts &
Humanities in Italy. He also trained and researched extensively with
both experimental theatre groups and teachers in Italy, England and
Japan. He has shown, and performed work extensively, nationally and
internationally and trained also in Butoh, both in England and Japan.
Within this paradigm he has experimented with reference to Tarantism
(an ancient phenomenon of his place of origin in Salento, Italy) and
was commissioned on this by Chisenhale Dance Space in 2005. Currently,
he is involved in an interdisciplinary/collaborative sci-art project on
the experience of living with tinnitus with an award from the Wellcome
Trust.
