Your direct application

Unless you’re applying for an undergraduate degree or a PGCE starting in September, you should apply for your course directly through us. This means if you want to study one of the following courses your application should be submitted to us online.

If you're applying for our Social Work MSc, you can choose to apply through UCAS or apply directly to us.

How do I apply direct?

To apply directly to us, follow this simple step-by-step guide:

  1. Choose a course. You can do this using our course finder or visiting our course pages.
  2. Read the course information. Once you’ve decided it’s the course for you, click the “Apply now” button.
  3. You'll need to choose your residency status, ie whether you're a UK or international student, and the month/year you want to start your course. Once you've selected that from the drop-down you can click "Apply direct".
  4. Register your details and complete the application form.

To complete the application form you’ll need the following information at the ready:

  • address
  • qualifications (including dates attended, name, subjects and overall grades)
  • employment history
  • GCSE Maths and English qualifications, or equivalent (prospective undergraduate students only)
  • contact details, preferably email addresses, for two referees

In addition to these details you’ll also need to provide a personal statement and a series of documents to support your application.

Personal statement and supporting documents

In your personal statement you should explain in detail your reasons for choosing your course and your interests in the subject. We look for students who can demonstrate their enthusiasm, experience and passion for their chosen subject. Towards the end of your application you’ll also be asked to upload copies of your qualifications, a CV and any other relevant documents.

Please ensure that you provide the correct email address on your application. We’ll send you confirmation by email when you’ve successfully completed the application process and we may contact you by email when assessing your application.

When should I apply?

It's always best to apply for our courses as early as possible. Although we don't strictly have a closing date for applications, places on our courses are offered on a first come first served basis. We therefore recommend that you submit your application to us as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

If you’re looking to start a full-time undergraduate course, read our guide for applying through UCAS.

If you're interested in applying for a PGCE, visit the Department for Education's teacher training application service.

Online application guidance

Applying to us online

If you're applying from outside of the UK, for a postgraduate or part-time course, or for an undergraduate course beginning in January, you can use our online application system to submit an application (please see the exceptions below).

Please note that UK applicants applying for full-time undergraduate courses starting in September must apply via UCAS, unless applying from July to start a degree in September the same year, in which case applications can be made through Clearing.

How to apply online

To enter the online application system you must first choose a course. You can then use the Apply now and Apply direct buttons. This will take you to the online application portal, which will ask you to create a new user account. We recommend you use your personal email address as your online application account username.

If you've previously applied to us you must log into the system using your previously registered details. Please contact evision@londonmet.ac.uk if you can't remember your user details or are having problems logging in.

Please refer to the information in each of the tabs provided above to ensure you complete all of the relevant sections of your application correctly.

It's very important that you take care when entering all of your personal and application details, as the information you provide becomes the basis of your student record.

Emails and contact details

Please ensure that you include your own personal "home" email address, even if you're applying through an agent. Our primary medium of communication is via email and it's therefore extremely important that you keep us up to date of any changes to your email address/contact details. We recommend you monitor your junk mail folder(s) for any incorrectly categorised 'junk' emails from the University.

In order to assess your fee status and immigration requirements, you're provided with a list of questions to confirm your residential status. Please ensure you complete these sections carefully and accurately to ensure we have the correct information about you.

You'll be asked to confirm the following information:

  • your country of birth
  • the nationality stated on your passport
  • your second/dual nationality if you have one
  • where you currently live
  • the date of your entry into the EU/EEA (if resident outside of the EU/EEA during the three-year period leading to the first day of the month you'll start your chosen course)

This is an additional section of the application form that will only appear for those who have indicated they're non-UK residents or of non-UK nationality. This gives applicants the opportunity to provide their passport document details and confirm their immigration circumstances and needs (student visa/other immigration permissions).

You'll be required to provide answers to the following questions:

  • Do you require a student visa in order to enter and study in the UK?
  • Have you previously studied in the UK?
  • Are you currently residing in the UK?

Please note: It is advisable to have copies of your passport and any immigration permissions ready to upload for the final section of the application.

In this section you must provide a full education history, from your secondary school to your most recent studies. International students must include all study previously undertaken in the UK, without exception.

Entering qualifications

You should enter your qualifications clearly and refer to the certificates/transcripts you've been issued for all names, dates and grades of qualifications. Your education records should be entered starting with the most recently completed courses.

Please note that you can provide up to a maximum of six qualification records and add each one in sequence by selecting to "add another qualification".

Applying for entry with University Credit

You can confirm to us if you are applying for admission with previously completed university or college credits for advanced entry, or module credit/exemption, on to an undergraduate or postgraduate degree.

You'll need to provide transcripts of your previous study when you're prompted to upload documents at the end of the application in order for us to assess your eligibility. Any documents must be official transcripts (in English) containing the scores/grades for each individual module/subject.

English language

To assess your English language ability we'll ask you to provide details of an English language qualification, if you have one. If you don't currently hold a qualification you'll need to obtain one. For more information please see our English language requirements.

Please ensure you provide a scanned electronic copy of all qualifications listed on your application.

Work experience can often be the difference between a successful and unsuccessful application, and it's important to carefully summarise this experience, especially if it's related to the course you're applying for. Some courses have a minimum work experience requirement so make sure you check the course listing and correctly indicate your experience if necessary.

We'll ask you for the follow information:

  • name of your employer
  • title of your role
  • type of employment
  • date you started in your role (dd/mm/yyyy)
  • date you left your role (dd/mm/yyyy)
  • company address
  • brief description of your role and responsibilities

There is also an opportunity to provide referee details. Please see the "Reference request" tab.

Personal statement

Your personal statement is used to assess your suitability for your chosen course. Before completing your personal statement, we recommend that you briefly review any specific requirements for your course. Your statement should be a maximum of 1,500 words and include the following information:

  • why you're applying for the course
  • your interest in and suitability for the course
  • what you hope to achieve by studying the course
  • how this course is relevant to your future career or personal development objectives
  • how the academic or work related knowledge, skills and positions of responsibility you've gained through your education and/or paid or unpaid work are relevant to your selected course
  • any additional information that you feel is relevant to your application

Please note that your use of English, including spelling, grammar, punctuation and structure, will be considered when determining your suitability for the course. We suggest you draft and save your personal statement before copying and pasting it into the box provided in the application form.

Criminal convictions

The University welcomes students from a wide variety of backgrounds and recognises that some of its applicants may have criminal convictions. We have a positive approach, and disclosure of a conviction does not automatically result in the withdrawal of an offer. However, because of our obligations to protect staff and students, we expect applicants to disclose any unspent convictions relating to certain offences once you've been made an offer of a place.

If you're applying for certain courses (such as Dietetics, Counselling Psychology, Social Work, teacher training, Primary Education, Early Childhood Studies, Montessori Early Childhood Practice and Early Years Education) we expect you to disclose all unspent convictions and all spent criminal convictions that are not eligible for filtering at the earliest stage and before we make an offer.

Find out more about the University's approach to criminal convictions.

Previous study at London Metropolitan University

If you've previously studied at London Met it's important you inform us of this so that we can ensure that your new application is connected to your previous London Met student record. Please provide your London Met ID or contact the Admissions Office if you've forgotten your previous ID number.

You should aim to provide one academic and one professional reference/referee when completing this section. The referees should be able to comment on your suitability for the course you're applying for and should be someone who knows you in the capacity of a teacher (secondary/high school), lecturer (university or college) or employer (line manager, supervisor). References from family members are not accepted.

We'll contact your referees using the email addresses you provide to request that they send a reference directly to us. Instructions for this will be issued to your referees when you've completed and submitted your application.

You'll be asked for the details of two referees, including:

  • name of referee
  • job title/occupation
  • name of institution/company/organisation
  • address
  • post code
  • telephone number
  • email address
  • how they know you

If you already have written references you should provide these by uploading them at the end of the application. Please see the "Upload documents" tab. You don't need to complete this section with the same information, as long as the contact details of the referee are listed on the references provided.

This section must be completed to confirm who has submitted the application and that all the information provided is correct. If it is you who's submitted the application you should confirm this by selecting the "Applicant" option. You'll then be taken to the document upload section where you can formally submit your application.

Before proceeding, please ensure that all fields have been completed. You can save your progress at any time and return to your application. However, once you've submitted your application you won't be able to make any further changes or additions.

Make sure you have any documents you wish to upload ready before you begin your application. You should upload copies of all relevant documents that you've listed in your application, including transcripts of your most relevant and recent previous study.

The name, type and size of the files you upload are of vital importance. Incorrectly uploaded or incompatible file types that cannot be opened or viewed will not be taken into consideration with your application and could lead to your application being unsuccessful.

Please label each file you upload clearly and separate documents depending on their type. An academic transcript and award certificate can be uploaded in one file, but please separate different qualifications and label them correctly.

For example:

  • bachelor's degree certificate and transcript
  • master's degree certificate and transcript
  • IELTS certificate
  • CV
  • reference
  • passport
  • current visa

All documents must be provided in English. If your original documents are not in English, only certified translations will be accepted for assessing your eligibility and these must be submitted with the original translated documents.

The documents you upload should be in either pdf or jpeg format.

We welcome applicants with disabilities and are happy to consider requests for reasonable adjustments to be put in place for any interviews or pre-entry tests. Reasonable adjustments may include arranging sign language interpreters or modified test papers, allowing extra time to complete required pre-entry tests, or providing amanuensis.

For such arrangements to be put in place, we require evidence of your disability before carrying out the adjustment. The standard of evidence is detailed in our Disabilities and Dyslexia Services section. If you think that you may require reasonable adjustments around interviews or pre-entry tests please contact the Disabilities and Dyslexia Service directly who will be happy to discuss this with you and put in place any arrangements.

If you have any questions about how our Disabilities and Dyslexia Service can support you, or if you want to discuss what support you may need at the University, please contact us on the details below:
