Finance Department

 

Introduction

The three core functions of the Finance Department are to:

• provide strategic financial support for
business and operational planning

• provide day-to-day financial services to the
University, its departments, students and staff

• meet external and internal financial

reporting requirements.

 

In addition, we manage the University's

insurance arrangements.

Our Customers

Our primary focus is to provide financial services and advice for:
• the University as a whole (represented by
the Vice-Chancellor, the Executive Group
and the Board of Governors)
• those holding budgets for departments,
institutes and projects.
Services are also provided to individual staff,

students and customers.

Services

Services include:

• treasury management
• production of financial plans such as
budgets, capital plans, cashflow
forecasts and business cases
• monitoring against financial plans,
and providing management
information for the Board, its
Committees, the Executive Group
and budget holders.

 

• payment of invoices and expenses
• collection of income
• treasury management
• advice on costing and pricing
• ad hoc exercises such as investment
proposal reviews and the raising of
funds.

We also produce annual audited financial statements and returns for various statutory bodies including: HEFCE, HESA, TDA, and Revenue and Customs.

Financial Regulations and Audit

The Department is required to ensure that the University operates within the Financial Regulations as set by the Board of Governors and that we comply with various external financial requirements. We also ensure that the University's financial records satisfy internal and external audit.
