Web responsibilities
Introduction
This note provides an update and clarification of responsibilities relating to the University website, www.londonmet.ac.uk to ensure that the site meets the needs of its users.
Overall responsibility for the University website rests with the Department of Marketing & Communications. Marketing & Communications maintain University top level pages directly. Responsibility for day-to-day maintenance of departmental/faculty pages lies with the department/faculty. Responsibility for the technical function and development lies with ISS (Application Management). Web pages for the Students’ Union and for affiliated clubs and societies are the responsibility of Student Services.
Departmental responsibilities
Departments/Faculties are responsible for the day-to-day management of their own departmental pages. They should ensure that content is current, relevant, accurate and meets guidelines for: visual content; University housestyle and branding guidelines; University web standards; legal requirements; writing style; and essential content requirements. Each Head of Department/Faculty is encouraged to designate a Web Content Provider (CP) to be responsible for the departmental site and liaise with the Marketing team.
Any site located away from londonmet.ac.uk must either display or link (via "disclaimer") to the following text: ‘These pages are the responsibility of xxx. The views here do not necessarily represent official views of the University’.
The Designated Departmental Web Content Provider (or HoD) should also inform the Web Manager or Head of Marketing of any complaints received regarding any information published on any University web server.
Standards of legality and decency should be adhered to when uploading content of any type.
ISS (Application Management) and Marketing & Communications responsibilities
Training is available for Web Content Providers
ISS (Application Management) and Marketing Teams can provide guidance and advice but do not have the resource to maintain departmental pages except in exceptional circumstances (agreed by the Director of Marketing & Communications or Head of ISS (Application Management)).
ISS (Application Management) is responsible for ensuring that standards are set for usability and accessibility and that the pages it is directly responsible for meet these standards. The Web Manager will inform Web Content Providers of any changes to web services, legislation and guidelines.
ISS (Application Management) has the responsibility for monitoring usage and if complaints are received about illegal or offensive material on the site, it may request material to be removed or changed, or may remove the material itself. In the case of persistent misuse of personal pages, computing accounts could be suspended.
ISS (Application Management) are responsible for ensuring that the technical system that it puts into place to run the web pages is adhered to.
