Library Catalogue
| To find what is available in the library you need to look up in the catalogue. The catalogue contains a list of all the materials - books, journals, electronic resources, videos etc. held in all the libraries of the university. Catalogue terminals are available in the Library for your use. You can also access the catalogue on the Internet at http://catalogue.londonmet.ac.uk/.
How to locate a book after looking up the catalogue Location tells you the library site/s the item/s held in. Status tells you whether the item is on the shelf, out on loan or missing. If the item is out on loan then you may need to make a reservation. Class mark gives the shelf number where the book is kept. The books are arranged by a numerical system called the Dewey Decimal Classification System. Each item in the library is classified or given a number according to its subject, and will have its class number on the spine of the item. The purpose of this system is to keep items of the same subject together, so that you can browse these shelves, if you know the class number of your subject area. These shelves are well sign-posted with each stack of shelving carrying notices indicating the first and last number in that section.
