Databases and e-resources: Inclusive Design

Online resources include:
Bibliographic databases: chiefly Indexes and Abstracts [e.g. Daai]

  • DAAI : Design and Applied Arts Index International index covering all areas of design and craft. Contains over 100,000 references from more than 450 design and craft journals, with 10-15,000 references added annually. Also includes data on over 40,000 designers, studios, workshops, firms etc. Also included are 4 supplementary directories on education, organisations, archives and periodicals.

  • Art Full Text
    Art Full Text is a database that offers full-text plus abstracts and indexing of an international array of arts publications. Art Full Text offers:
    -Full text of articles from some 160 journals as far back as 1997
    -Indexing of periodicals back to 1984
    -Coverage of fine, decorative and commercial art
    -Indexing of art reproductions to help researchers focus on a single artist or find individual works.

Medical, Health Services and Life Sciences
  • AMED (Allied and Complementary Medicine)
    AMED covers complementary medicine, physiotherapy and manual therapy, occupational therapy, rehabilitation and other subjects. AMED indexes relevant references to articles from 400 journals, many not indexed by other, more general biomedical sources. The scope of coverage is strongly European with the majority of titles in English.
    As well as basic bibliographic information, each record includes controlled index terms using the AMED Thesaurus based on MeSH and an abstract giving clear indications of the coverage of the item.

  • British Nursing Index
    The BNI database contains full-text articles and print journal references from all the major British nursing and midwifery titles. Coverage is from 1994 onwards.

  • Cochrane Library
    The Cochrane Library contains high-quality, independent evidence to inform healthcare decision-making. It includes reliable evidence from Cochrane and other systematic reviews, clinical trials, and more. Cochrane reviews bring you the combined results of the world’s best medical research studies. Gives access to full-text articles and podcasts.

  • Encyclopaedia of Life Sciences
    The Encyclopaedia comprises 3,000 specially commissioned, peer-reviewed and continually updated articles covering the biological sciences.

  • Social Care Online [Social Care Institute for Excellence]
    Abstracts of social work and social care literature. The database contains over 50,000 abstracts of books, central and local government reports, research papers, and publications of voluntary organisations, and articles from a wide range of journal titles - academic, research, practice and news-orientated. The database covers UK, North American and other English-language resources

  • International Bibliography of the Social Sciences

    The Web of Knowledge is a collection of databases, which include the Arts & Humanities Citation Index, Science Citation Index, Social Sciences Citation Index, and the Index to Scientific and Technical Proceedings. The three citation indexes retrieve bibliographical data, sometimes full text.
