Full Text Databases
  • Academic Search Complete
    A very large, multidisciplinary database, which includes scholarly
    journals as well as newspapers and popular magazines. Indexes well over
    8,000 journal titles, including more than 4,700 full text journals.
    Covers area studies, arts, creative writing, education, film, history, humanities, journalism, language and linguistics, literature, performing arts, philosophy, sociology, and many other disciplines.

  • AdForum
    The AdForum database contains information on over 20,000 advertising agencies and 90,000 advertisements (images, moving images, tv, print, interactive, etc.) from around the world (over 100 countries are represented in the database).

  • Art Full Text
    Art Full Text comprises the bibliographic contents of leading Art journals, museum bulletins and yearbooks. The database gives references to articles, reviews, exhibition listings and many other types of material. Unusually, reproductions of works of art that appear in the journals are also fully detailed. Full-text coverage for 160 periodicals is also included. Coverage is from 1984 as an index, with added abstracts from 1994, and with full text from 1997 to the present. It is updated monthly. Subject coverage spans all aspects of art, from visual to performing arts, and ranges from archaeology to television and video.

    On-line access to a large range of films on art produced in the United Kingdom since the 1950s; including all 450 films made by the Arts Council England between 1953 and 1998 and several films produced till 2003 by the dance Department of ACE.

    An online image database of over 260,000 high-quality images, with 500 new images added weekly. Worldwide coverage of the visual culture of civilizations from prehistoric times to the present. The images are supplied by museums, galleries and private collections. Images cover a wide range of subjects, from Medicine to Theatre and from Geography to Politics. Every image has been copyright-cleared for educational use by staff and students. An online tutorial is available.

  • British Universities Film and Video Council: ALL BUFVC
    Search nine online databases relating to film, television and radio content from 1986 onwards: News on Screen (The online resource for the study on newsfilm); Shakespeare (Shakespeare on film, television and radio); This Week (This Week programmes from 1956-1992); ILR Sharing (The Independent Local Radio archive); ILR South (The ILR South radio archive); The LBC/IRN Audio Archive (London Broadcasting Company radio and Independent Radio News); TVTiP (TV Times listings from 1955-1985); Find DVD (A guide to audio visual materials for educational use); TRILT (The online source for UK television and radio data). You can search more than 13 million records in one go, or one collection at a time, and link to clips and films where relevant.

  • Communication and Mass Media Complete
    Index and abstracts for articles from over 400 journals in this field, including radio, television and journalism. Includes links to full text for many articles.

  • EUscreen
    EUscreen offers free online access to videos, stills, texts and audio from European broadcasters and audiovisual archives. Explore selected content from early 1900s until today.

  • Global Market Information Database (GMID)
    An international market research database with country data, consumer lifestyles, consumer market sizes, forecasts, companies and brands, major market profiles, market analysis.

  • IIPA: International Index to the Performing Arts
    Indexes journal articles across the whole field of performance, including dance, film, drama, broadcasting etc.; access to some full text articles. Coverage 1998 onwards.

  • Key Note
    Find consumer research, market insight and analysis on major UK industries, consumer and business services sectors. Additionally, there is access to in-depth business ratio information, from the business Intelligence section.

  • Mintel Reports
    Provides consumer market research reports on UK services industry.

  • NewsFilm Online
    NewsFilm Online offers access to over 3,000 hours of downloadable television news and cinema newsreels, selected from the ITN/Reuters Television archives.

  • Oxford Art Online
    Includes Grove Art Online, The Oxford Companion to Western Art, Encyclopedia of Aesthetics and The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Art Terms.
    Grove Art Online is an art encyclopedia covering all aspects of visual art. It includes the full text of The Dictionary of Art, edited by Jane Turner (Macmillan, 1996) - the landmark reference work in 34 volumes with more than 45,000 articles contributed by 6,700 scholars from 120 countries - and is regularly updated. All new content is written and peer reviewed by scholars and specialists, with the participation of more than 1,000 international art historians. It also offers over 5,000 searchable and embedded art images, maps, and line drawings, and provides over 40,000 editorially selected image links to museums and galleries around the world.

  • Screenonline
    BFI Screenonline is an online encyclopaedia of British film and television featuring hundreds of hours of film and television clips from the vast collections of the BFI National Archive, and several hours of recorded interviews with film and TV personalities. It is the single most extensive publicly available resource devoted to British film and television.
    Video and audio material can only be viewed in the University.

  • Visual Arts Data Service
    A collection of over 100,000 images. The image resources are free and copyright cleared for use in UK Higher Education. The database covers advertising, architecture, art history, crafts, design, dress, fashion, fine art, graphic design, industrial design, jewellery, painting, photography, posters, public monuments, textiles, sculpture, shoes, stained glass.

  • WGSN (Worth Global Style Network)
    WGSN an online news and information service for the fashion and style industries including fashion forecasting, company profiles and news items on e-commerce, finance, advertising and marketing.

  • Zanran
    Search engine for data & statistics - graphs, charts and tables.
