Full Text Databases

  • Academic Search Complete
    Full-text access to thousands of journals across a broad range of topics, including titles such as European Journal of Crime, Criminal Law and Criminal Justice, Howard Journal of Criminal Justice, Gender, Work and Organisation, New Internationalist and many more.

  • Business Source Complete
    Similar to Academic Search Complete, this also a useful database that provides full text articles. It also provides country reports.

  • Census.ac.uk
    Home of the ESRC Census Programme, provides services to allow users in UK higher and further education institutions to access data from the 1971, 1981, 1991 and 2001 UK censuses.

  • Communication & Mass Media Complete
    This database covers journals in communications and mass media, including radio, television and journalism. It provides abstracts (summaries) and bibliographical details of journal articles as well as links to full text for many of these articles.

  • E-Journal Service (EJS)
    This is a very useful database to find full-text articles and has a good coverage of Social Sciences.

  • Emerald Management Xtra
    This database provides full-text articles covering management disciplines including strategy, leadership, information management, and marketing and human resource management.

  • HeinOnline
    Large full text collection of law journals and texts, mostly from the U.S. but also from around the world. Useful for international law.

  • Humanities International Complete (HIC)
    HIC provides access to full text of hundreds of journals, books and other published sources from around the world. It also includes all data from Humanities International Index, a comprehensive database covering journals, books and other important reference sources in the humanities, which provides citations and abstracts for articles, essays and reviews, as well as original creative works including poems, fiction, photographs, paintings and illustrations. Humanities International Complete is an invaluable resource for students, researchers, and educators interested in all aspects of the humanities.

  • IBSS (International Bibliography of the Social Sciences)
    One of the largest and most comprehensive social sciences databases in the world with access to over 2 million records. Current data is taken from over 2800 international social science journals and around 7000 books per year.

  • ISI Web of Knowledge database see Social Sciences Citation Index

  • JSTOR
    Contains back issues of many important history journals. For most, however, access stops three years ago.

  • Lexis Library
    Full text case law, journal articles, legislation and commentary, including Halsbury's Laws of England.

  • Nexis UK (Newspaper Database)
    Many files date back to 1980 and most files are current to within 24 hours. Useful for retrieving articles on current affairs.

  • Sage Journals Online
    Contains full-text articles of the most popular peer-reviewed journals in Communication Studies, Management & Organization Studies, Materials Science, Politics, Psychology, Sociology, and Urban Studies & Planning. Access is to subscribed journals only, get a list by clicking on “SAGE journals available to me”. Can also read summaries to journal articles we don’t subscribe to or which might be available via other databases.

  • Social Care Online
    A database offered by the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) providing abstracts of social work and social care literature. The database contains over 50,000 abstracts of books, central and local government reports, research papers, and publications of voluntary organisations, and articles from a wide range of journal titles - academic, research, practice and news-orientated. The database covers UK , North American and other English-language resources. Updated weekly.

  • Social Sciences Citation Index - Included in ISI Web of Knowledge database
    Multidisciplinary database, with searchable author abstracts, covering the journal literature of the social sciences. It indexes more than 1,725 journals spanning 50 disciplines, as well as covering individually selected relevant items from over 3,300 of the world's leading scientific and technical journals.

  • SwetsWise
    Provides full-text access to many of the journals, which the University subscribes to.

  • Westlaw
    Full text UK, EU and international case law, legislation and commentary.

  • Wiley Online Library

  • Zetoc
    This is the British Library Electronic Table of Contents database of over 20,000 current journal titles. It also contains conference proceedings. Provides only bibliographical details.
