The Ladbroke House Library is moving

--

What is happening?

The University is moving out of the Ladbroke House building in 2012, and all the operations based there will move to the Holloway Road campus.

As part of this move, Library Services have been asked to transfer the library stock and services from Ladbroke House to the existing library in the Learning Centre on the Holloway Road campus by April 2012.

To maintain access to as much of the library stock as possible, we are moving stock gradually in small batches. This means that we can pack and unpack crates quickly, so that books aren’t “unavailable” for more than a day or two. If we transferred the entire library at in a single operation it would mean that the Ladbroke House stock would not be available for several weeks.

Where is the Holloway Road Library?

It’s about a 15-minute walk from Ladbroke House – you can pick up a map of the route from Ladbroke House reception or the library.

The Holloway Road campus has very good transport links: it’s directly opposite the Holloway Road underground station (Piccadilly Line), and it’s a short bus ride or a 10-minute walk from Highbury and Islington station (Victoria Line, London Overground and First Capital Connect services).
Buses 43, 153, 271 and 393 stop outside; buses 29 and 253 cross Holloway Road at Seven Sisters Road.

How will I know whether books are still at Ladbroke House or have already been moved to Holloway Road?

As we transfer the books from Ladbroke House, we’ll change their “location” to show that they are now held at Holloway Road. Whenever you look for an item on the library catalogue you will get an up-to-date picture of which library holds copies. You can also see information about the progress of the move on the Library Services webpage.

Will the Holloway Road library provide the same facilities that I get at Ladbroke House?

Definitely; in some ways the facilities are even better.

  • The library provides a range of study areas for group study and silent study, as well student computer workstations, printing, copying and binding services, just like Ladbroke House.

  • Two floors of the library were refurbished in 2011 at a cost of £6.5 million to provide an enhanced study environment. Students who use the library are very enthusiastic about the new facilities.

  • A new café, open Monday-Friday, has been installed next to the library - and you can even take refreshments into some areas of the library.

  • The Holloway Road library offers much longer opening hours than Ladbroke House; it’s open from 8.00am, and at weekends.

The term-time hours for Holloway Road are:

Monday to Friday 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM
Saturday 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM
Sunday 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM

That’s 18 hours a week more than Ladbroke House library is able to offer.
And in vacations the Holloway Road library stays open until 7pm Monday-Friday.

Please note: Update: Final day of opening will be Wednesday April 4th.
