Library Services for Disabled and Dyslexic Users

Library Services is committed to providing a range of accessible facilities and services, some of which are specifically designed for disabled users and those with specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia.

Most public areas of our libraries are accessible to users with mobility difficulties, and there are wheelchair accessible service points for enquiries, and for borrowing and returning books. A number of adjustable-height study tables are available in each library.
We work closely with colleagues in the University’s Disability and Dyslexia Service, who advise us of adjustments required by students using an Internal Needs Assessment Report (INAR).

If you do not currently have an INAR in place then please contact the Disabilities and Dyslexia Service (DDS) to discuss your needs. The initial contact points for DDS are by phone on 020 71320 1122 (City campus) or 020 7133 2188 (North campus) or email to dds.studentservices@londonmet.ac.uk. Please see the DDS website for individual staff contact details.

If your INAR indicates that it is appropriate, we can provide the following services:

  • Assistance in using the online catalogue
  • Assistance in locating material on the shelves
  • Book-fetching service – please note there is a delay in retrieving requested material
  • Extending the loan period on 1-week loan items to 3 weeks
  • Advice on obtaining print materials in alternative formats for students with visual impairment

The University also provides a range of assistive technologies, details of which can be found on the DDS website.

Any member of the library staff will be happy to assist you in your use of the library; in addition, each library has a designated person who is responsible for liaising on library matters with disabled users and the Disabilities and Dyslexia Service.
