Ladbroke House Library - Site Specific Services

Self-Service Borrowing and Returning
image of self-service machines Self-service machines are located near to the enquiry desk. Library users are encouraged to use the machines for borrowing and returning books and videos: just follow the simple instructions on the screen. Staff will assist new users or give advice should problems occur. You will need your university ID card to borrow items.

Media Service Point

Study Areas

There are three general study areas.

  • The central study area contains 24 individual study carrels and 4 study tables but no IT facilities. This area is intended for individual, quiet study although some quiet discussion is permitted.

  • The rear study area contains 25 individual study carrels (3 with AV equipment), 10 student PCs and seating at study tables for 12 people. These are all for general use. There is also a PC on a height adjustable table and a single height adjustable study desk RESERVED for wheelchair users. These may NOT be used by anyone else.

  • The Silent Study Area is a completely separate room (LH1-13) within the library area and contains 14 individual study carrels and 12 student PCs. There are also 2 study tables for individual use.

    NO TALKING or other noise is permitted in this area.

Group Study Room One (LH1-18b)

There is one bookable group study room in Ladbroke House Library. It contains two student PCs; a study table; a whiteboard and DVD/VCR playback equipment for group viewing.

Group Study Rooms can be booked via the catalogue for a maximum of 2 hours by groups of 2 to 8 LondonMet students for LondonMet course related study.

The key must be collected from the counter by the person who made the booking. Any booking not taken up within 15 minutes of the start time will be deemed to have lapsed. The usual regulations relating to food and drink apply in the Group Study Rooms.

Please note: If found eating or drinking anything but water in library study rooms, the person to whom the key is issued, will be banned from booking a study room for a 3 month period.

Group Study Room Two (LH1-18a)

Group Study Room Two is a much larger room than Group Study Room One and is available without booking. There are 11 PCs, including one on a height adjustable desk, and a variety of study tables. Please note that this room does not have a dedicated printer - all print jobs will go to the student printing network to be printed out at any networked student printer in the University.

The usual regulations relating to food and drink apply but this is the one area of the library where you may make and take calls on your mobile.

Library IT Room (LH1-12)
image of media service point This contains 31 student PCs, one of which doubles as the presenter's desk when library staff are using the room for user education sessions - at these times, the room is not available to individual students. Of the other 30 PCs, 22 are for individual private study, 7 are available for group study (max 3 students per PC please) and one is located on a height adjustable table and is reserved for wheelchair users. There is a networked printer in this room.

Researchers' Room (LH1-18c)

This study area is reserved for LondonMet M Res, M Phil and PhD students and is kept locked when not in use. Students wishing to make use of this facility should email the Learning Resources Manager in advance, requesting the code, to b.shersby@londonmet.ac.uk, stating their name and borrower and ID numbers.

The room has 2 PCs at separate tables plus one study table without a PC. Please note that this room does not have a dedicated printer - all print jobs will go to the student printing network to be printed out at any networked student printer in the University.

The usual regulations relating to food and drink and mobile phones apply in the Researchers' Room.

Print & Binding Room (LH1-17)
As well as two of the networked student printers, this room also has one PC for use with the scanner and one Mac, along with two catalogue terminals. There are also facilities and equipment for layout work and for binding.

IT Facilities

The 73 student PCs are distributed throughout the library areas. Most have the software build that includes the digital media software except for those PCs in the Silent study Room and the rear study area.

All student PCs are connected to the student printing network and any jobs sent to print can be released at any networked student printer in the University.

In order to print, you will need to have credit on your account.

All library student PCs will take USB storage devices and have CD drives. Very few (mostly in the Silent Study Room) have floppy disc drives. Access to audio is via headphones only.

Copying, Printing & Binding Facilities
Ladbroke House Library has 3 networked student printing/copying machines and one money loader. There are also facilities for self service binding.

Facilities for Wheelchair Users
Ladbroke House Library is located on the first floor, which is served by the main lift at the front of the building. The library has three PCs on height adjustable tables for wheelchair users - one in Group Study Room 2, one in the Library IT Room and one in the rear study area. Each of these PCs has the standard student suite of software. The rear study area also has a height adjustable study table.
