An Artist''s Book

Consider an art object, an artist's book, which could be anything from a collectable treasure to an ephemeral throwaway. It has particular authorship, an author in the sense of creator. It is a distillation of a specific creative process. The author might want to show you the desires or pleasures of an entire universe, or of a very intimate world. It is most likely that you can hold the object in your hand, although occasionally, in this period of enjoyment of spectacle, an object might occupy an enormous or unexpected space, or be on a screen. The author of the object has been responsible for everything concerning it: the ideas, the look and feel, how it is made, and by whom; and the pace at which you read it.
The structure, that is, the weight and texture, the size and shape of the object, is inextricably linked to the subject inside. The contents are secret until you open it; there may be a combination of text and image, or they might appear separately. The fusion of subject and object is very important in the creation of an artist's book.
Opening the book activates the dialogue within it, which will not stop until you close the last page, leave the area, or switch off the screen.

Lotte Little has been working as Per Se Press for five years, making books and bookworks. These can utilise letterpress, watercolour, printmaking, photography or computer technology. She also works as a painter, printmaker and photographer in her own name.
Books allow the intimate combination of disparate media. Intertwine concept and emotional response through text and image; sometimes concise, sometimes diffuse.
"……the desires and pleasures of an entire universe, or of a very intimate world….."
