University libraries
  • COPAC - provides free access to the merged online catalogues of 24 major university research libraries in the UK and Ireland PLUS the British Library, the National Library of Scotland, and the National Library of Wales.

  • The InforM25 Consortium has 52 member institutions in London and the South-east. See the searchable union catalogue.

  • SUNCAT - is a Serials UNion CATalogue for the UK. It is a pilot project but is extremely useful for locating serials held in UK Libraries.

Local and regional libraries
  • City Business Library - holds a major collection of business information sources including market research, UK and international directories, reports of international organisations and periodicals.
    Access is free.

  • Guildhall Library - covers London history, national and local history societies. Parliamentary debates, Public and Local Acts and Statutes.

  • London Libraries
    Search the collections and community information resources of a range of libraries, museums and archives across London.

National libraries
  • British Library
    The British Library reference collections are available at the St Pancras Reading Rooms. The British Library at St Pancras is a research library and the Reading Rooms are for reference only. Students and researchers are normally asked to demonstrate specific research requirements before being allowed admission, so consult the British Library catalogue on the web before your visit.

    Access is free but only to materials not available elsewhere. Admission forms can be downloaded from the main British Library web site.

  • British Library National Newspaper Library - holds daily and weekly newspapers and periodicals from 1801; Commonwealth and foreign newspapers. See website for access policy.

  • The European Library - links to 43 national libraries in Europe.

  • Library of Congress - online catalogue.

  • List of National Libraries - listed alphabetically by country.

  • National Art Library
    The National Art Library is part of the Victoria & Albert Museum and is a major art and design reference library that is open to the public. The opening hours and all the information needed to register can be found here and you can search the catalogue here.
