Access to Other Libraries for London Met Students and Staff

• London Metropolitan University students whose equipment has been set up for Eduroam can access our subscribed e-resources at other libraries, but not any other e-journals or databases.

SCONUL Access is a scheme which allows many university library users to borrow or use books and journals at other libraries which belong to the scheme, The scheme covers most of the university libraries in the UK and Ireland.

If you are:

• an academic on an open or fixed term contract
• a postgraduate research student registered for a PhD, MPhil or similar qualification
• a part-time, distance learning and placement student
• or a full-time postgraduate

you may be able to borrow from other college or university libraries.

If you are:

• a full-time undergraduate student
• or staff of a small number of higher education libraries not participating in the scheme
  

you may be able to use the resources of other college and university libraries for reference.

N.B.

• You must be “in good standing”  - no outstanding fines or very overdue books before your application can be approved.

New applications can only be processed during main office hours, 9-5 Monday-Friday.

If you have a current SCONUL Access card or approval email from your home institution you may use the main three week and one week loan collections. There is no general access to IT facilities for external readers but if your home library uses Eduroam, you should be able to access your institution’s  e-resources via the Eduroam wi-fi system. Check the list here and contact the IT staff at your home institution in case of difficulty.

You must bring your current ID or library card from your home institution, your SCONUL Access card or approval email, and a passport photo.

Readers with Band A, B or C cards may borrow up to 4 standard loan or one week loan books. Non-book material and Short Loan items may not be borrowed.

Undergraduate students and postgraduate students following taught courses at UK colleges of higher education or UK or Irish universities will normally be granted reference use of other higher education libraries free of charge during the vacations of the host institution.

A London Met ID card may be sufficient to gain access, but as these do not include course details or  when your course ends you may be required to produce a SCONUL Access card or approval email as well.

You are strongly advised to check the library's web page, or telephone in advance of your visit, in order to be sure about vacation dates, opening hours, and documentation required.
