What We're Doing
London Metropolitan University has implemented an Environmental Sustainability Policy and a Carbon Management Plan.
We have identified 97 projects to reduce our carbon impact including investigating renewable energy.
Some of the projects we have undertaken are:
Movement sensors on lights
Sealing on windows to reduce draughts and heat loss
Voltage optimisation
Recycling of waste
Ensuring heating matches occupancy hours
Automatic shut down of student PCs
Centralisation of printers
Chilled beam air cooling in the Learning Centre
Participating in Earth Hour
Academic Departments and students are involved in a wide range of high profile environmental research, projects and community involvement including:
London Met is one of just 20 institutions from around the world and the only UK university chosen to take part in the 2012 Solar Decathlon Europe competition.
CIBS publication listed among top 40 sustainability books in the world.
The Department of Applied Social Sciences has hosted the Schools at University for Climate and Energy programme which involved 700 children from Islington and Hackney.
