Studio brief
Impression studio explores publishing within design practice, with an emphasis on original thinking and innovation. Taking analogue methods as our launch pad, you'll branch out into future publishing models and the exciting possibilities offered by the integration of print and digital tools and media.
You'll be immersed in the culture of publishing and design and explore formats (both print and digital) as conduits for the relationship between designer and audience. Workshops, research, discussion, visits and talks will form content for a series of exciting projects that question and redefine traditional publishing materials and systems.
You'll make work using a mixture of traditional methods, analogue methods such as silkscreen printing, letterpress printing, paper folding and binding, and combine these with new media platforms including web, social media and publishing apps.
Working in teams that reflect the real working structures of the design publishing world, you will take on roles including editor, art director, publisher, designer and writer. Studio projects will approach publishing and design from a strong conceptual stance, as well as establishing the skills and knowledge to create high-quality work in a range of media.
We'll work collaboratively to generate content, re-invent formats, inspire new ways of working and make print and digital projects that establish publishing at the heart of design practice.
