About the Registered Teacher Programme

There are two pathways that Trainees can choose from: The RTP Primary and the RTP Early Years.

All Trainees work in their school or other agreed workplace throughout their training programme. During each semester, they spend four days per week in the workplace and spend one day per week studying at the University, or other designated venue.

During their training in schools, Trainees are supported by members of the University's team, and by a workplace Mentor, who is responsible for supporting the Trainee, ensuring they are meeting the Standards and ensuring that any practical training needs Trainees have are met.

The taught programme is designed to equip Trainees with the subject knowledge and professional skills required to become outstanding teachers. All modules focus on aspects of the Standards and encourage the use of reflective journals and a critical review of appropriate literature, including inspection evidence.
