Tuition Fee Information and Guidance

  • All students registered for a research degree are liable for an annual tuition fee that covers registration, supervision, examinations and graduation.
  • The tuition fee you pay depends on whether you study full time or part time, where you currently live and potentially on your nationality and immigration status.
  • Tuition fees are expected to increase annually.
  • If you submit your thesis or withdraw from your studies during an academic year, you may be entitled to have part of your fees refunded.
  • Please note that students studying for an MPhil/PhD in Life Sciences will also have to pay relevant bench fees.
  • Students may apply to suspend or intermit their studies for a period of one to six months. An administration fee of £50 per month is payable for each month of suspension/intermission. During the period of suspension/intermission, students do not have access to University facilities or services and are not entitled to supervision.
  • Application for writing up fee may not be made until after a minimum of three years FT or six years PT.
  • The writing up fee is only available for 12 months. After that, fees revert to the applicable standard fees.
  • If you are awarded a degree subject to corrections and minor amendments but are not required to resubmit for re-examination, you will not be liable for further fees.
  • Any students who are examined and required to resubmit their thesis for re-examination will automatically be charged further fees after notification of the result, until they resubmit.

The tuition fees listed are provisional only. The University reserves the right to make additional fee increments during the year.

Please note:  If you have not re-enrolled by 31 October 2012 for this academic year, the University will withdraw you from your course of study.
