The Graduate School

Director of the Graduate School
Professor George T.H. Ellison

The Graduate School was established in August 2002 to provide a focus and integrated support for postgraduate education within the University - for all Doctoral research programmes and Masters level and related taught courses.

Its principal aims are:

  • to promote a graduate identity for the University and its postgraduate students;
  • to enhance student and staff experience of graduate education through the provision of dedicated facilities;
  • to further develop the postgraduate community encompassing staff and students in an increasingly research-enriched culture, and
  • to foster the creation of new taught and research programmes including cross-disciplinary studies.

The Graduate School is home to the Research Office and the Postgraduate Centres. The Research Office deals with the administration of research degrees, provides advice and support to research degree students, and plays a central role in facilitating the University's Research Policy. The Postgraduate Centres are located across both North campus and City campus. The Centres support students on the postgraduate courses attached to their respective building, and are the location for student advice and guidance and course information.
