Overview
STORM is the Statistics, Operational Research and Mathematics research centre.
STORM engages in academic research in the following areas:
- Generalised Linear Models
- Generalised Additive models for location, scale and shape GAMLSS
- Queuing theory and reliability
- Combinatorial optimisation
- Operator, Banach and C*-algebras
- Algebraic topology, homotopy and category theory
- Qualitative and asymptotic behaviour of solutions of some classes of ordinary and functional differential equations
Research in STORM is generally strategic research; however, much of the work is directed towards applications.
STORM currently has six full-time staff members, with several other associated members. In addition, there are nine research students.
STORM is particularly interested in developing research links with colleagues who have expertise complementary to STORM's research interests. In addition, STORM has a notable interest in software development, particularly in the Royal Statistical Society's GLIM package and in the GAMLSS software (an R package). STORM has ongoing strong links with the Institue of Cybernetics in Kiev. Staff of the Centre are contributors to the On-board Active Safety for General Aviation project ONBASS
