Public lectures and debates
Over the years, we have hosted numerous lectures and debates at which leading politicians, journalists and scholars have spoken about history, literature and current affairs in Ireland and the Irish diaspora. These occasions provide an opportunity for the wider public to listen and participate in discussions about Irish affairs past, present and future.
Guest speakers have included Joseph Lee, Mary McAleese, Fergal Keane, Bernadette McAliskey, Terry Eagleton, Helena Kennedy QC and Fintan O’Toole.
In January 2016, we co-hosted (with the Irish Literary Society) the debate Ireland 1916: Death of a Literary Revival? with three of Ireland’s leading writers, Jennifer Johnston, Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill and Marina Carr along with two of its most distinguished scholars, Prof. Declan Kiberd and Dr. P.J. Mathews.
