Teacher Supply and Retention in 22 LEAs, 2000 - 2001

This project arose out of the Teacher Supply and Retention in six London Boroughs activities (1998 — 2000).
Eighteen of these LEAs were in London (inner and outer), two more in the south-east of England, and two in the north-west of England.
The first phase of this work aimed to provide LEAs with regular analyses of the teaching force that they employ, and those entering and leaving that force, to enable the LEAs to strategically manage the future supply and retention of teachers. LEAs were supplied with regular reports on trends in their own teaching force, which were also compared to those in geographically similar LEAs. Over seventy short reports were provided on questions that the LEA were particularly interested in, and three annual reports were written on issues of interest to all the participating LEAs, such as secondary shortage subjects, and the ethnicity of the teaching force.
A summary report as prepared for the TTA, and this, and the three thematic reports, are publicly available. The LEA specific reports remain confidential to the LEA concerned.
After a year, this project concluded. Seven of the LEAs commissioned a further study, Teacher Retention in seven LEAs .
