Voluntary Opportunities

Volunteers provide vital support to EHRAC's activities and in return gain experience of how an NGO functions and the opportunity to assist in its important work. Depending on the nature of the tasks carried out, volunteers either work in the EHRAC office or from home via email.

EHRAC is particularly seeking voluntary assistance in the following areas:

Translation - Russian/Georgian/Azeri to English and English to Russian/Georgian/Azeri

Due to budget constraints, EHRAC is very much in need of linguists to assist with the translation of case documents from Russian, Georgian or Azeri into English. The translation of case documents allows EHRAC's expert legal team (drawn from the Bar Human Rights Committee of England and Wales (BHRC), legal academics and the wider human rights community) to use their experience of successfully representing applicants in Strasbourg to assist in our casework. Translation volunteers are provided with a glossary of legal terms in order to assist them with translations and normally work from home.

Additionally, we require assistance with the translation of training materials, website articles and other general material and correspondence from English into Russian, Georgian or Azeri.

IT

EHRAC is seeking volunteers with excellent IT and desktop publishing skills to assist in the production of the EHRAC Bulletin, other publications and publicity materials, and to support staff members with maintaining the project's websites.

Fundraising

EHRAC was core funded, initially for three years, by the European Commission, as a grant under the European Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights programme. It currently receives funding from a number of private grantmaking trusts. Volunteers with experience of fundraising are sought to assist EHRAC in maintaining relations with existing donors and to carry out further fundraising for specific project activities. Writing and Proofreading

There are opportunities for volunteers with a background in law or human rights with excellent writing and proofreading skills in English to prepare and proof articles for the EHRAC Bulletin, websites and other publications. This work is available on an ad hoc basis and can usually be carried out from home via email.

Expenses

Regrettably, EHRAC is unable to cover volunteers' travel costs to the UK or living expenses. Within limited circumstances, however, we may be able to offer some assistance towards local London travel, depending on funding available.

Visas

EHRAC only accepts applications from candidates who are already in the UK, or who are able to make their own visa and travel arrangements. EHRAC does not have the resources to take any responsibility to support a candidate's visa application.

Accommodation
EHRAC is unable to assist volunteers in finding accommodation in London. The websites www.loot.com and www.gumtree.com may help in finding rented accommodation.
