In May 2007 EHRAC began a formal partnership with the Slavic Centre for Law and Justice (SCLJ). SCLJ is based in Moscow and is one of very few organisations in Russia that deal specifically with religious and ethnic discrimination issues.
EHRAC first began assisting SCLJ with European Court litigation in 2005. In October 2006 a joint training seminar was held in Moscow entitled "Protection of Religious Freedom in the European Court of Human Rights" and one of SCLJ’s lawyers participated in the EHRAC Legal Skills Development Programme. EHRAC has also provided operational support to SCLJ in terms of preparing funding proposals and developing relationships with potential donors.
The new project envisages joint litigation at the European Court of Human Rights on issues of religious and ethnic discrimination and of freedom of expression and assembly; training; development of the SCLJ website with materials related to the European Convention on Human Rights; and the dissemination of the EHRAC Bulletin to SCLJ’s network of lawyers.
