In April 2007, legal interns at EHRAC had the unique opportunity to question EHRAC-Memorial Case Consultant, Kirill Koroteev, about issues related to taking a case to the European Court of Human Rights.
Among the European Court cases that Kirill has worked on are the ‘first six’ Chechen cases and the precedent-setting environmental case of Fadeyeva v Russia. From 2003-2006 Kirill worked as a project lawyer in the EHRAC-Memorial Moscow office. He is currently studying for a PhD at the Sorbonne, Paris, and continues to work on a number of the project’s pending European Court cases.

Having reviewed some of the EHRAC-Memorial cases, the interns were able to ask Kirill specific questions about his cases and the procedures of the European Court of Human Rights. Among the many other issues that Kirill discussed were methods of collecting evidence, how to interview witnesses and victims and preparing and calculating a just satisfaction claim.
EHRAC legal interns, Tamar Khidasheli, Olga Shchukovskaya and Natalia Prilutskaya, who took part in the meeting, found it extremely helpful and instructive as it allowed them to clarify many questions relating to the law. They also noted that it was a very valuable experience in that they were able to "look beyond the textbooks" and see what preparing a European Court case is really like behind the scenes.
