Intervention in Al-Skeini and Al-Saadoon cases
In March 2009 a group of thirteen organisations, including EHRAC sought leave of the European Court of Human Rights to submit written comments in the case of Al-Skeini and Others v. the United Kingdom. This case is important both in terms of the protection of the right to life internationally, and in respect of the Court’s Article 1 jurisprudence. In particular, this case raises the critical issue of application of the Convention beyond the territories of the High Contracting Parties, including the requirement of the occupying State to comply with its duties under Article 2 (right to life) of the Convention.
