Following a study of fast food outlets in Tower Hamlets Sue Bagwell (along with Simon Doff from LMU's Food Science dept) has been asked to evaluate the implementation of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Heath's Healthy Catering Initiative. As part of the SECOA project research, a short online survey to gather information on the difficulties practitioners involved in managing coastal areas face when trying to implement the principles of ICZM. The survey is aimed to reach practitioners involved in managing coastal areas in a range of aspects (e.g. flood and erosion risk management; nature conservation; urban planning etc.). A successful bid has been won from the EU Interreg IVB Programme for a 3 year project designed to foster e-mobility and the use of electric car transport across the North Sea region. A knowledge exchange grant has been awarded under this cross-research Council programmee programme to Cities Institute on the use of spatial and visualisation methods for community engagement. The award will fund 3 workshops to be held in London, York and Dundee, with
partners, the University’s of York and Abertay.
Dr Luciana S. Esteves gave a presentation about our SECOA project and the research conducted in the UK study sites during the SUSCOD meeting held from 26-28 March
2012 in Harwich (Essex, UK). The SUSCOD project aims to develop a practical tool (the ICZM-assistant) to assist practitioners in enhancing the implementation of the integrated coastal zone principles in their projects or organisation. For more information see http://www.suscod.eu/.
A SECOA project focus group (led by Luciana S. Esteves, Jo Foord and Helene Draux) was held on 22nd March 2012 with stakeholders of Farlington Marshes, Portsmouth to gather their views on the future management of the Marshes. This was part of a new transparent and inclusive approach being developed by the project to incorporate the opinion of stakeholders and the public in decision making concerning land use conflicts in multifunctional areas.
