Module Registration, Course Planning and Approval
All undergraduate students are required to have a complete programme of studies registered before they can enrol or re-enrol.
For full time undergraduate students, this normally means a set of compulsory (core) modules for your course and in some cases, if your course structure allows it, some option choices, totalling 120 credits. For part time students, the intended credits registered for the year cannot exceed 90 in an academic year (45 in each semester).
New full time students, entering at the first year of an undergraduate course will normally have their modules pre-registered for them prior to enrolment. If on checking your timetable, you do not have a full set of modules for the autumn semester (totalling 60 credits), you should go to your Undergraduate Office.
Part time students and full time students starting at higher levels than the first year (direct entry), should contact their Undergraduate Office to arrange an appointment with their Personal Academic Adviser (PAA) to discuss appropriate module registrations for the coming year/semester.
During the academic year students will receive an email from the Academic Registry relating to the required programme of studies for the next academic year/semester. The email will list the Core (compulsory) modules which must be taken for the course. In addition, depending on the course structure, students may choose some option modules. It is important that you respond promptly to the deadline set in the email for registering your modules, otherwise you may not get to study the modules of your choice, as they will be selected for you.
To register modules you must complete a Module Registration Form (MRF) and hand it in to your Undergraduate Office. Before completing the form, it is recommended that you review your course structure, research potential modules you are interested in, ensuring you have the appropriate pre-requisites and discuss your choices with your Personal Academic Adviser (PAA). The following is a guide to help you complete a MRF:
Step-by-step Guide to completing a Module registration Form (MRF)
You need to complete a Module Registration Form (MRF) (found at the bottom of this page). Either complete the word template, print and sign; or print the pdf version and complete by hand.
1. Write (clearly) your Surname, First Name, Student Number and Course. Then:
2. Look at the list of Core modules you have received (from your Undergraduate Office or by looking at your course structure) enter these on the Module Registration Form (MRF) under the appropriate Semester (Autumn, Spring or Summer Study): C (under C,D,E column), Module Code, Module Title, with the Day and timeslot(morning=am; afternoon=pm; evening=eve). N.B. Module timeslots can be accessed via the Module Catalogue for: Certificate level; Intermediate level; Honours level; Foundation degree modules.
3. Now add your chosen Options. N.B. full-time students should take four modules (60 credits) per Semester, part-time students can take up to three modules per Semester. The Designated Options availbe to you are listed on your Undergraduate Programme structure (or Foundation level structure). Module descriptions (and timeslots) should be accessible from each structure, use this information to ensure that timeslots do not clash and that you meet any pre-requisites (if stated). N.B. not all Options run every year. If you are unable to access a web page detailing the structure of the programme you are studying, please contact your Undergraduate Office for assistance.
4. If your programme provides the opportunity to take an Elective (which includes modules from the Open Language programme) instead of a Designated Option, you should choose your module at this stage.
5. If you are not sure about the choices you are making before handing your form in you should go to your Undergraduate Office to book an appointment to see your Personal Academic Adviser.
6. Enter each of your chosen Designated Options on your Module Registration Form: under the appropriate Semester (Autumn, Spring or Summer Study): D (under C,D,E column), Module Code, Module Title, with the Day and timeslot (morning=am; afternoon=pm; evening=eve). If you choose to take an Elective instead of a Designated Option, the same details are to be entered, but put E under the C,D,E column.
7. We have provided an example below of what your completed form should look like.

8. Sign and date your form. Hand the completed form in to your Undergraduate Office. Here a quick check will be made to verify that your form has been fully completed, (please keep a note of your module choices).
9. Approval of your programme - you will be notified by e-mail if there are changes that have to be made to the modules you have listed. Your approved 2011-12 programme should be accessible via E-Vision within two weeks of submission of your Module Registration Form.
10. Just before the start of the 2011-12 session (late September) you should be able to access details of your approved programme for Autumn Semester (with timeslots and rooms) via the Personal Timetables facility.
