How to apply

Please follow the steps below to find out if your University has a link with London Metropolitan University and how to apply.

1. Eligibility

First of all, please check to see if you can come to London Met as an ERASMUS student. We can only accept ERASMUS students from our list of partners* and only in the agreed subject area.

You should be a student in good academic standing and have an Intermediate level of English language ability, equivalent to a score of 6.0 IELTS or 580 TOEFL PBT or minimum 79 TOEFL iBT. You cannot study at London Metropolitan University if you do not have this level of English.

Your first step should be to visit your home university's International Office and discuss the application process with them. We will not accept any applications from students who have not been nominated by their home university. If your home university accepts you on to the Erasmus programme and nominates you to London Metropolitan University by email we will then contact you to ask you to begin the application process.

*If your university is not listed and you would still like to come London Met, you can apply to our fee-paying Study in London Programme for EU Students.

2. Incoming Application Form

a) Once your university has sent your name to us as an Erasmus candidate we will send you the application form by email.

b) Complete the form electronically. For information about how to complete your Intended Study Programme please read the information under the "Study Programme" tab.

c) Print the form and obtain a signature from the Erasmus coordinator at the International Office of your home university.

d) Send the original, signed form along with:

  • a university transcript
  • a copy of the details page of your passport
  • and a small photograph to:

International Programmes Office
London Metropolitan University
Stapleton House
277-281 Holloway Road
London N7 8HN

Please DO NOT email the completed form - only hard copies will be accepted which must be accompanied by the other required documentation.

3. Deadlines

The application deadlines are:

 - for first (autumn) semester and whole year students: 15 June

 - for second (spring) semester students: 15 November

Please note that applications received after this date will not be considered and you will be asked to submit your application for the following semester.

International Offices of partner universities are asked to make their nominations in good time so the students can get their applications back to LondonMet by the deadline.

Once we have received the signed copy of the application form, we will let you know by email whether or not you have been accepted. If your application is successful, we will, at a later date, post an offer letter to you which will include your LondonMet student ID number. Please DO NOT email asking when the letter will be sent.

4. Visa Requirements

If you do not hold a passport of a member country of the European Union or a member of the European Economic Area then you will require some form of visa. Depending on whether the country you are a citizen of is on the Visa National list you will require either a Student Visitor Visa (valid for stays of 6 months or less only with no option to work in the UK) or a Tier 4 Student Visa. In either case you will require documentation from London Metropolitan University to support your visa application. For more information on visa requirements for the UK please see the website of the UK Border Agency and the information in the Visa Requirements section of this page.

5. Accommodation

You will receive an email from the International Programmes Office to confirm that you have been offered a place at London Metropolitan University. At this point, you can contact the Student Accommodation Bureau for information and advice about your housing options. You should mention that you are an Erasmus student as the Accommodation Office like to verify prospective students with us.
