Mariano Juan Tenca

Argentinian student Mariano Juan Tenca discusses his background and his experiences on the Criminology MSc at London Met.

What led you to choose criminology?

In 2011 I obtained my first class Honours degree in Law, graduating first in my class. During my studies I was employed by the Argentinian Criminal Judiciary and then by the Argentinian Prosecution Service. After that I decided to continue my studies abroad by undertaking an LLM in Criminal Law in the UK.

I applied for and was awarded the International Postgraduate Scholarship by London Metropolitan University which gave me the privilege to study the Msc in Criminology.

What were the advantages of studying in London?

Being located in one of the world’s greatest cities, London Met offers students the possibility to experience academic life in this cosmopolitan and culturally diverse capital. Made up of historic sites and wonderful urban enclaves, London offers culture, innumerable cuisines, parks in every neighbourhood, and easy transport connections.

What has the course taught you?

This great experience has enabled me to gain an in-depth knowledge of this fascinating multi-disciplinary field. The programme offers many diverse and stimulating modules including Crime Prevention and Community Safety, Crime and Offender Patterns, and Contemporary Issues in Criminal Justice. Lecturers are very professional and they are always willing to help students to succeed in their studies. The programme has also allowed me to interact with students from all over the world with different academic backgrounds including criminology, sociology, law, criminal justice, and international security. The degree obtained from London Met has certainly helped me to obtain a legal internship at the United Nations Office on drugs and crime in Vienna, which I am currently undertaking.

I certainly believe that the year I spent studying at London Met was a once-in-a-lifetime experience from both an academic and personal perspective. My overall experience has led me to believe that the programme constitutes the best choice for anyone interested in studying criminology in the UK.
