Zoubida Mostefai-Hampshire
Zoubida is the course leader of Translation BA (Hons). Zoubida taught French, English and Arabic as foreign languages to undergraduate level students; French and English grammar, phonetics and phonology of French and English at undergraduate level; contemporary French studies to MA students (option: the francophone world); literary translation English-French; methodology of translation English-French and has been teaching general linguistics, theory of translation and translation specialisation at undergraduate level.
Her career started with a two-year full-time translator post from French into English and occasionally interpreter role (French-English and English-French) for the Documentation Centre of the Algerian national body Pharmacie Centrale Algérienne. Zoubida's teaching career took off at the University of Algiers where she taught English as a Foreign Language, applied linguistics, followed by teaching French and Arabic as a foreign language in various London-based FE and HE institutions, and French for specific purposes (medical and pharmaceutical firms) among other things. Her continuing career as a senior lecturer now focuses mainly on translation issues, both theoretical and practical as well as translation specialisation in such domains as law, medicine and business. She is also the applied translation course leader and admissions tutor.

Zoubida's areas of research interest are sociolinguistics of contemporary Algerian French, bilingualism, multilingualism, francophonie, language and identity, language policy, translation and pragmatics.
Zoubida has undertaken one major fieldwork research in the sociolinguistic subject area resulting in her MPhil degree in phonetics awarded by University College London. She has also been collecting language data and has started analysing its salient characteristics for future publication.
