Steve Jones is a senior lecturer and course leader for the Secondary Science PGCE at London Met. He has over 20 years' experience of teaching science in London's secondary schools including the roles of head of biology and head of science.
He worked for Redbridge Local Authority as part of the Secondary National Strategy team as a strategy manager for science, working intensively with over 20 schools on school improvement. Between 2006 and 2011 he held two strategic national lead roles in science education: managing the Specialist Science Colleges Network and then leading the Specialist Science Colleges Support Programme across England with the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust providing training and guidance for school leadership teams on science specialism.
He also co-led on the key school-to-school partnership aspects related to improving science attainment as part of the highly successful London Challenge Programme. More recently Steve has worked as a consultant deputy headteacher and for the Science Learning Centre (East of England) at the University of Hertfordshire, writing and presenting courses on all aspects of science teaching.

He runs his own educational consultancy business supporting schools with raising achievement in science. In 2013-14 he led the set up and establishment of three new school-led Science Learning Partnerships across Eastern England as part of the reconfiguration of the Science Learning Centre network.
Steve has written for a number of publications including The School Science Review and has sat on numerous advisory panels including The National CPD Panel for Science and The Science National Curriculum Review Working group at the DfE. He has provided advice on science education internationally including for government agencies in China, Japan, Kazakhstan and the Middle East.
