Dr Paul Gentle

Dr Paul Gentle is director of Programmes at the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education, and programme lead for Changing the Learning Landscape, a sector-wide partnership project aimed at bringing about step change in the way higher education providers lead strategy around technology-enabled learning and teaching. Funded by Hefce, the project works collaboratively with the National Union of Students (NUS), the Higher Education Academy (HEA), Jisc and the Association for Learning Technology (ALT).

He is programme director for the Leadership Foundation’s Top Management Programme, and is responsible for the open programmes portfolio for the organisation as a whole.

He has led in higher education since 1990, when he joined the University of Central Lancashire. After several years as head of Languages and International Studies, he moved to the University of St Mark & St John as dean of International Education and subsequently director of Regional Affairs.

Paul is author of a number of articles and book chapters on leadership in higher education, and is author of ‘Engaging Leaders: the challenge of inspiring collective commitment in universities’ (Routledge, 2014; with case studies by Dawn Forman).
