Chief Operating Officer
John Duffy is an experienced management and leadership professional with more than 30 years’ experience in Higher Education. He joined London Met in 2017 as our Chief Operating Officer (COO) with responsibility for running the operations side of the University.
Much of John’s Higher Education career has been in a science context, having held leadership roles in the science faculty at the University of Edinburgh and the University of Newcastle Medical School. He has worked at Chief Operating Officer level since 2004, first at St George’s University Hospital and then at the University of Sussex.
“I’ve been lucky in my career to gain a lot of experience across a wide range of universities,” John said. “I’m really glad to be able to apply this experience to London Met, especially as the University has an amazing opportunity in the One Campus, One Community project.”
For John, one of the best things about working at London Met is the people here, and what the University stands for.
“I was struck when I joined London Met at how open and friendly the people are. Everyone is strongly committed to the University’s mission of transforming lives through excellent education."
“The difference this University makes to peoples’ lives is amazing, and it’s wonderful to be part of that.”
When he’s not at work, John can often be found in the kitchen – he is a good cook – or at the Emirates watching Arsenal. He is an avid Gooner, having lived in Islington since 1990, and holds an Arsenal season ticket.
“I also love to travel,” he added. “I think I would say Mexico City is one of the best places I’ve been fortunate enough to visit, although Hong Kong is a special place as well. But I love India. My partner is Indian and I’ve visited India many times. Mumbai is an amazing city.”
