Ian joined the John Grieve Centre as a part time lecturer in 2013.

Ian was formerly a Detective Sergeant in the Metropolitan Police Service following a police career spanning from 1982 to 2011. Latterly specialising in crime investigations and criminal intelligence. He has experience of International Policing, having served a 12-month secondment with the Civilian Policing contingent in the UN Mission in Kosovo in 2007.

Ian holds a masters in Terrorism Studies from the University of St. Andrews.

His interests are broadly terrorism and counter terrorism, intelligence led policing and the use of ‘confidential informants’, together with examining the circumstances where terrorism comes to an end.
