Teaches on the Guitar Making short courses.

Alex Bishop

Alex moved to London in 2007 to pursue a career in guitar making. He specialised in ‘gypsy jazz’ guitars (of the style originally popularised by jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt), but also builds folk guitars and electric guitars of his own design. He set up ‘Alex Bishop Guitars’ in 2011, carrying out commission-based guitar construction projects and repair work. Alex researches and implements innovations in guitar construction including side soundport monitors, chamfered armrests, alternative bracing systems and fanned fret techniques.

In September 2010 he was awarded the ‘Cockpit Arts / NADFAS’ award for designer-makers, and the London Metropolitan ‘University Recognition Award For Academic Excellence’.

Alex is also a part-time professional musician with a comprehensive appreciation of all aspects of the guitar as musical instrument, from conception to construction and performance. He continues to take immense satisfaction from striving for perfection and uniqueness with every instruments.
