Aims of the course

  • To enable accounting practitioners to achieve continuing professional development (CPD) while updating their management accounting skills
  • To enable you to become a master of one topic of your choosing

We achieve these aims by having a small seminar-based course, given by leading academics at our central London location.

Entry requirements

This MSc is intended for those who have gained (or are eligible to gain) membership of one of the CCAB professional accounting bodies including ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, ICAEW, ICAI, ICAS, or overseas equivalent.

Course structure

The degree has three main modules:

  • Management Accounting Research Methods
  • Contemporary Issues in Strategic Management Accounting
  • Dissertation

The Research Methods module, which is taught in the autumn semester, provides you with the knowledge skills and competencies for the conduct and reporting of your own research project (the dissertation). The skills developed include critically reviewing the literature, interviewing, questionnaire design, and analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data. The Contemporary Issues module, which is delivered in the spring semester, provides you with a critical perspective of contemporary theories and developments in accounting theory and practice. It involves leading academics giving a presentation on specialist areas.

  • Performance Management Systems, including the Balanced Scorecard
  • Performance Measurement, Management and Improvement in Service Businesses
  • Strategic Management
  • Risk Management
  • Leadership, Change and Management Accounting
See recent guest speakers on the Contemporary Issues module

The Dissertation component, which is completed in the summer semester, enables you to build upon the insights gained from the leading academics and others by carrying out a research project focusing on one issue that is relevant to your personal development and your organisation. You will have your own supervisor with whom you can discuss issues arising out of your dissertation.
